Job Title: Transportation Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Transportation Specialist to join our team at The Kennedy Center. As a key member of our para-transit system, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of individuals with disabilities.

Job Summary:

The Transportation Specialist will be responsible for operating a 7 to 14 passenger van, providing scheduled services to adults with disabilities, and communicating effectively with riders, parents, and staff. This is a dynamic and rewarding role that requires a strong sense of initiative, good judgment, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate a 7 to 14 passenger van, including lifts and restraining devices, to transport individuals with disabilities.
  • Communicate effectively with riders, parents, and staff to ensure a positive and safe experience.
  • Assist individuals on and off the van, including opening doors, removing seat belts, and supporting individuals as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety precautions, including the daily use of seat belts and restraining devices.
  • Submit all required paperwork, including daily run sheets, travel log sheets, and maintenance repair sheets.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to possess a State of CT Public Service License.
  • Maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings, weather conditions, and locations.
  • Must maintain PMT and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office and the internet.
Physical Requirements:
  • Have physical endurance to use physical crisis intervention techniques, including restraining individuals.
  • Provide physical intervention, including lifting, mobility, first aid, and safety evacuations.
  • Must be able to sit for a two-hour continuous period or more behind a steering wheel.
  • Move and lift, push and pull weights up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.
