Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic laboratory team at Cedar City Hospital. As a Clinical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in facilitating laboratory organization and patient care, working closely with doctors, nurses, and medical laboratory scientists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Order and prepare patient samples, such as blood and other body fluids, and deliver specimens to the appropriate department or testing facility.
  • Accurately label, accession, and process patient specimens, including tissue, blood, and body fluids, according to established procedures.
  • Communicate procedures and specimen collection instructions with patients and clinical staff, demonstrating empathy and compassion in every interaction.
  • Develop additional skills, such as phlebotomy, laboratory exception handling, and laboratory testing.
  • Participate in special projects, interact with pathologists and physicians, and operate multiple computer and test ordering systems.
  • Perform sterile specimen preparation techniques and other responsibilities as required by site or assigned by the team or department leader.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS)/RQI for healthcare providers (only applicable at sites where LAs perform phlebotomy).
  • High School diploma or GED in compliance with CLIA regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate in English (oral and written).
  • Customer service skills and ability to work in a team environment under stressful situations.
  • Ability to take on-call shifts, according to department needs.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Basic computer skills and flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • Adheres to all personal protective requirements, including gloves, lab coats, face shields, and masks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching concepts to others.
  • Previous clinical lab or pathology experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Interact with others, requiring the ability to verbally communicate information.
  • Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment, requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
  • See and read lab equipment, monitors, and documents.
  • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer or other equipment.
