Position Overview

The Radiology Technologist Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting with advanced procedures utilizing sophisticated digital radiology equipment. Responsibilities include aiding in the handling of instruments, guide wires, and catheters, ensuring precise placement during medical procedures. This position also involves operating the image intensifier, allowing physicians to maintain focus during critical interventions. The role requires participation in on-call rotations and may involve covering various responsibilities within the Radiology department as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Efficiently operate all specialized procedure and Cath Lab equipment throughout various procedural phases.
  • 2. Ensure all equipment is maintained in optimal working condition, adhering to preventative maintenance schedules, and promptly report any malfunctions to Biomedical Engineering.
  • 3. Collaborate with Senior Technologists to train new staff and provide educational sessions as needed.
  • 4. Assist in advanced procedures requiring sophisticated digital radiology technology and act as a surgical assistant when necessary.
  • 5. Participate in on-call rotations, covering shifts, holidays, and weekends as required.
  • 6. Function as a Radiologic Technologist in general radiography or Special Procedures Suite when requested.
  • 7. Provide patient care, including monitoring vital signs and performing venipuncture as needed, along with administering contrast and maintaining airways.
  • 8. Maintain sterile techniques in surgical environments.
  • 9. Demonstrate multi-skilling across Cath Lab and Radiology.
  • 10. Meet performance expectations in Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Professional Development as outlined in performance evaluations.
  • 11. Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. required; completion of formal radiologic technology training from an A.M.A. accredited institution and eligibility for A.R.R.T. registry.

Experience: Preferred minimum of one year of experience in special procedures techniques, demonstrating adequate capabilities as assessed by department leadership.

Licensure: Current Connecticut State License in Radiologic Technology is required.

Special Skills: A.R.R.T. Registered (R); A.R.R.T. (CV), (CI), (VI), (RCIS) certification as per specialty. BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory.
