Among these are A Tasteful Place, a garden dedicated to fruits, herbs, and vegetables, and The Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden, an 8-acre outdoor science museum designed to engage visitors in life and earth science principles. Recognized as the top visitor destination in Dallas, the garden boasts vibrant seasonal displays and a substantial annual budget.

Position Summary:

This role serves as a vital link between the Dallas Arboretum and its visitors, ensuring that public spaces are clean and well-maintained. Under the guidance of the Operations Supervisor, the individual will uphold the aesthetic and functional integrity of the gardens.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a positive visual presentation and experience for all guests and staff.
  • Ensure cleanliness of event spaces before, during, and after events.
  • Monitor visitor traffic and promptly address cleanliness needs, including restroom maintenance and litter collection.
  • Proactively manage the cleanliness of outdoor areas, including sweeping and trash collection.
  • Sort and collect recyclable materials, ensuring proper disposal practices.
  • Perform routine cleaning of public and office spaces, including dusting, vacuuming, and window cleaning.
  • Regularly empty trash receptacles throughout the gardens.
  • Utilize equipment such as pressure washers and mechanical blowers while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Handle snow and ice removal as necessary.
  • Follow established cleaning schedules and communicate with supervisors regarding any challenges.
  • Increase cleaning frequency during high-traffic events and ensure restrooms are well-stocked and clean.
  • Conduct thorough cleaning of all surfaces in designated areas as per the assigned schedule.
  • Complete special cleaning projects as directed.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in janitorial services is preferred.
  • Familiarity with standard cleaning methods and chemical usage is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform physical tasks, including bending and walking for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Working Environment:

  • Work primarily takes place outdoors, often for the entire duration of the shift.
  • Employees may encounter various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
  • While some protection from weather may be provided, it may not fully mitigate temperature fluctuations.
