Psychiatric Nursing Assistant IV Team Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Psychiatric Nursing Assistant IV Team Lead to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our recovery team, you will provide advanced rehabilitative patient care services, coordinate emergency, health, and personal care services, and instruct staff on hospital and program procedures and policies.
Key Responsibilities:- Coordinate the observation and evaluation of patients for signs and symptoms of disease, injury, and reactions to medications that require intervention.
- Provide direct care for age-specific patients as assigned by the Registered Nurse, and coordinate assignments and specific duties for other PNAs.
- Document patient's goals, behavior, and progress, and serve as a member of the patient's recovery team.
- Develop plans for treatment and instruct other PNAs on how to take an active role with the patient as they work to achieve the goals of their recovery plans.
- Use basic computer skills and respond to questions from other PNAs on reporting procedures to communicate patient care information clearly and concisely in a timely manner.
- Actively promote safety through the continuous monitoring of the environment and active engagement of patients to minimize unsafe situations and injuries.
- Provide objective and relevant information to the supervising RN on an ongoing basis concerning the work performance of assigned PNAs.
- Facilitate programming offered on the treatment unit, co-facilitate groups as assigned or requested, and encourage patients to participate.
- Respond effectively in crisis or psychiatric emergency situations and provide guidance to other PNAs on verbal de-escalation and the application of Treatment Intervention Protection Strategies (TIPS).
- Perform the CPR/Heimlich techniques and use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) correctly and safely according to the specification of the American Heart Association.
- Instruct other PNAs on how to provide the RN with timely, clinically relevant patient information to promote safety.
- Serve as a preceptor for new employees, including PNA Is, IIs, and other temporarily assigned personnel to the unit.
- Actively participate in shift reporting and serve on unit and hospital committees and performance improvement workgroups as appointed.
- Serve as a role model and encourage subordinate staff to demonstrate a commitment to a culture that reduces risk to both patients and staff through support of the hospital's safety and risk management plans, infection control programs, and restraint and seclusion reduction strategies.
- Knowledge and experience in CAPPS, CARE, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Knowledge of patient aggression reduction interventions.
- Knowledge of patient care techniques and of treatment, therapy, developmental, and patient-centered recovery programs.
- Knowledge of effective interpersonal and leadership skills and ability to interact with other team members utilizing effective interpersonal skills.
- Skills in the use of computer and office equipment.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
- Ability to serve as a lead worker providing direction to others.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English to effectively communicate and carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to provide patient care, administer first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, conduct TIPS, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to work with others and accept supervision.
- Ability to train others.
