Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Psychiatric Nursing Assistant III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our recovery team, you will provide high-quality patient care services in an inpatient setting, working under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide emergency, health, and personal care services to patients, observing and reporting patient conditions and behaviors.
  • Interact with patients therapeutically, promoting living and social skills to encourage progress towards a lesser restrictive environment.
  • Participate in individualized and unit-based programming, facilitating patient progress and providing supportive documentation.
  • Assist licensed nurses in preparing patients for medication administration or treatment, taking and monitoring vital signs, and performing other assigned tasks within competency level.
  • Actively promote safety through continuous monitoring of the environment and engagement with patients to minimize unsafe situations and injuries.
  • Provide objective and relevant information to supervising RNs on patient behaviors, progress, and performance opportunities.
  • Assist in facilitating programming, co-facilitating groups, and encouraging patient attendance.
  • Respond effectively in crisis or psychiatric emergency situations, applying verbal de-escalation and Treatment Intervention Protection Strategies (TIPS) under RN supervision.
  • Perform CPR/Heimlich techniques and use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) correctly and safely.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques, treatment, therapy, developmental, and patient-centered recovery programs.
  • Basic computer skills, documentation skills, and reporting procedures.
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills, with ability to interact with team members.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English to effectively communicate and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide patient care, administer first aid, and conduct TIPS.
  • Ability to work with others, accept supervision, and train/guide others.
