The Lead Mortgage Risk Analyst is essential in assessing and processing loan applications, evaluating borrower creditworthiness, and ensuring adherence to lending regulations. By employing financial analysis and risk evaluation, the Analyst will make well-informed decisions to uphold a high-quality mortgage portfolio and promote responsible lending practices.

Your Role and Responsibilities

  • Risk Assessment and Regulatory Compliance: Perform risk assessments and review loans for adherence to agency and investor standards.
  • Decision-Making and Efficient Processing: Make decisions within the department's service level agreement (SLA). Meet productivity and quality benchmarks, averaging six decisions monthly for new loans and resubmissions.
  • Utilization of Automated Underwriting Systems: Leverage automated underwriting systems (Encompass, LPA, Desktop Underwriter) to evaluate risk, marketability, and documentation requirements for borrowers. Ensure precise data entry and facilitate automated decision-making.
  • Manual Underwriting Proficiency: Implement manual underwriting criteria in decision-making for loans lacking automated approval.
  • Effective Communication: Clearly and succinctly condition loans appropriately when making decisions.
  • Expertise and Guidance: Offer expertise and mentorship to processing and production teams on training matters and automated underwriting systems. Keep management updated on specific ongoing issues requiring immediate attention.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • VA Automatic and DE Designation
  • LAPP SAR designation
  • Minimum of five years in the mortgage sector, including three years of frontline underwriting for FHA/VA/Conventional loans
  • Two or more years of experience with mortgage software
  • Proficient in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Experience with purchase transactions, particularly in new construction, is preferred
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently
  • Exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
