About the Position

The University of Georgia's Lamar Dodd School of Art is seeking a highly skilled Studio Art Technician to join its team. This full-time, non-tenure track faculty appointment will be responsible for managing various aspects of the School's studio facilities, including maintaining safe and smooth operation of studio facilities in a wide range of media, digital labs, safety protocols, hazardous waste, building equipment, inventory control, and renovation/expansion projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and operate three-dimensional studio facilities, including a ceramics studio, wood shop, metal fabrication shop, jewelry metals shop, foundry, computer lab, and computer-aided design technology.
  • Supervise graduate assistants, lab monitors, and work-study positions, and train supervisees, students, and faculty on the tools and technology of the facilities.
  • Respond to studio support needs for the School via a Dodd Studio Support ticket system within the school's website.
  • Work closely with UGA's FMD (Facility Management Division) for facility maintenance, repairs, and renovation requests.
  • Teach 1-3 classes per year.
Requirements
  • A terminal degree is required; an MFA degree is preferred.
  • Possess technical competency working within the field of art, including the ability to operate, maintain, and repair a wide range of tools and equipment associated with traditional and digital art making processes.
  • Ability to teach courses in one or more of the School's three-dimensional studio fields, including jewelry, ceramics, interior design, and/or sculpture.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and management skills, problem analysis and problem-solving skills, and ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
