The Manufacturing Production Specialist role focuses on operating extrusion machinery, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of production workflows, equipment diagnostics, machinery operation, packaging protocols, health and safety regulations, and quality assurance standards. This position is vital in ensuring the consistent production of high-quality products while adhering to safety protocols on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Configure the extruder to produce products according to established operating standards, minimizing downtime and product loss.
- Monitor and troubleshoot issues throughout the extrusion process.
- In the event of safety or quality concerns, halt operations and engage in collaborative problem-solving with the shift supervisor, maintenance personnel, safety officers, and fellow operators.
- Safely operate a fork truck as needed.
- Participate actively in maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Execute product changeovers, which involve cleaning the extruder barrel and screws, feeder, pelletizer, classifier, reclaimer system, automatic bagger, and associated totes to prevent contamination.
- Maintain accurate records, including run logs, feed blends, product quantities in totes, packaging reports, and work orders.
- Provide comprehensive shift handover reports to incoming operators.
- Review and comprehend the policies and procedures outlined in standard operating procedures, hazardous communication guidelines, and waste disposal protocols.
- Take personal responsibility for adhering to all safety and health-related policies, participate in company-sponsored safety initiatives, and report any conditions or actions that may pose a risk to oneself or others within the facility.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- A minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience may substitute for educational requirements.
- At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred, with extrusion experience being a plus.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Previous fork-lift operation experience is preferred.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in the use of various hand tools.
- Ability to maintain high housekeeping standards.
- Strong communication skills are essential.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team, with daily tasks varying based on production needs.
- Willingness to work during holidays and weekends as required.
- Physical demands include lifting 55-lb bags, working in varying temperatures, climbing stairs, and frequent walking, standing, and reaching.
- Frequent climbing on and off of fork trucks is necessary.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Prior manufacturing experience, particularly in plastics and extrusion processes, is advantageous.
- Experience operating fork trucks is preferred.
- Basic mechanical skills and a solid understanding of mathematics, including the ability to perform calculations involving percentages, ratios, unit conversions, and basic arithmetic operations.
