Position Title: Precision Machining Specialist
Department: Fabrication
Classification: Non-Exempt
Role Summary: We are seeking a proficient Precision Machining Specialist to manage a range of machinery for various tasks, including operating our advanced Laser systems. This role involves the production and repair of precision components utilizing both manual and automated machinery, along with precise measurements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate manual dexterity and a keen attention to detail. A solid understanding of mathematics and mechanics, along with a commitment to safety protocols, is essential. The objective is to ensure efficient production processes and enhance operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities: As a Precision Machining Specialist, your duties will include:
- Utilizing and comprehending laser software (Trumpf/Meta Cam/SolidWorks) while operating the Trumpf Tube Laser.
- Handling hoists and manual pallet jacks effectively.
- Applying problem-solving skills to address cutting condition challenges and their impact on production.
- Reviewing sample parts, blueprints, and engineering documents to ascertain fabrication methods and operational sequences, along with determining product dimensions and tolerances.
- Selecting suitable tools, machinery, and materials for preparation of machining tasks.
- Executing proper startup and shutdown procedures for machinery.
- Measuring and marking metal stock to indicate cut placements.
- Calculating dimensions and tolerances using mathematical knowledge and precision instruments like micrometers and calipers.
- Machining components to specifications using tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Inspecting and testing finished products to identify defects and ensure compliance with specifications using precision instruments.
- Setting up, adjusting, and operating basic and specialized machine tools for precision machining tasks.
- Aligning and securing fixtures, cutting tools, and materials on machines.
- Monitoring machinery operations to diagnose malfunctions and determine necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Ensuring workpieces are adequately lubricated and cooled.
- Cleaning and maintaining machines, tools, and equipment to eliminate contaminants.
- Installing repaired or new components into machinery.
- Maintaining industrial machines by applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, and machining techniques.
- Collaborating with team members across various tasks to achieve collective goals.
- Upholding a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
- Adhering to quality standards and production schedules.
- Performing additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.
- At least 3 years of experience as a Machinist/CNC Laser Operator/Set Up.
- Proficiency in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated, or automated machinery (lathes, grinders, etc.).
- Basic familiarity with Media Mation/SolidWorks.
- Experience with metal machining is essential.
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Skilled in manual machining techniques such as vertical milling, turning, and precision grinding; tool-making skills are a plus.
- Competent in using precision tools (e.g., calipers) for accurate measurements.
- Knowledgeable about the properties of metals and other materials.
- Capable of performing basic shop math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measuring, and converting decimals).
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment; low volume/high mix experience is advantageous.
- Familiarity with raw materials.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods as necessary.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail in spelling, punctuation, and grammar for producing clear documentation.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while adapting to changes effectively.
- Prioritizing safety in all work activities and adhering to safety policies to maintain a secure workplace.
- Bringing a positive attitude and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Committing to attendance and punctuality standards to support operational effectiveness.
