Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant Opportunity

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is seeking an experienced physician assistant to join its growing academic program in cardiothoracic surgery.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide care in all aspects of the cardiothoracic surgery service, including operative care, outpatient clinic, and inpatient hospital care.
  2. Participate in inpatient rounds, write progress notes, conduct patient education, write prescriptions, and prepare discharge summaries.
  3. Identify and treat patient diseases and manage treatment of hospitalized patients.

Requirements:

  1. A National Provider Identifier (NPI) prior to employment and compliance with current Medicare requirements for billing.
  2. A current DEA number.
  3. Completed practice agreements on file in the Department.
  4. Excellent communication skills for clearly conveying medical information to diverse audiences.
  5. Maintain clinical competence in patient care delivery within the specialty area.
  6. Correct treatment modalities as needed.
  7. Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures.
  8. Ability to perform various medical procedures.
  9. Knowledge of applicable billing practices for PA services.
  10. Completed HIPPA training and compliance with Medical Center policies.
  11. Understand and adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies for Protected Health Information (PHI).
  12. Demonstrate customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  13. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited PA program.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a physician assistant in cardiothoracic surgery.

Work Environment:

UCI Health System, University of California, Irvine.
