Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts proper skin preparation and lead placement for various tests while adhering to safety protocols in nuclear medicine during stress testing. Evaluates contraindications and appropriateness of ordered stress tests, maintaining ongoing communication with physicians to accommodate specific preferences in testing procedures and protocols. Initiates IVs, prepares, and administers agents intravenously under physician supervision (as required) and assists physicians during medical emergencies.
  • Ensures that documentation is precise and includes all necessary data elements when entering patient information into computer systems and equipment. Obtains routine measurements, prepares information for physician interpretation, ensures proper electronic medical record storage when applicable, and performs patient assessments (e.g., blood pressures) and observations prior to and during procedures/tests.
  • Manages patient communications, interviews patients, and monitors critical test values, documenting information and notifying relevant parties. Records and instructs patients on cardiac event monitoring and coordinates follow-up calls with physicians.
  • Identifies routine waveforms, artifacts, and significant changes in patient rhythms, including segment elevation/depression, infarct patterns, and life-threatening arrhythmias. Communicates with medical staff when critical test values are detected.
  • Assists in processing medical information, including editing, billing, filing, and copying, and serves as a resource to provide pertinent clinical information to other staff and physicians using the electronic medical record while ensuring patient safety and compliance with HIPAA guidelines. Provides fundamental education on cardiac testing and ensures appropriate follow-up with medical staff as necessary.
  • Maintains the integrity of systems and identifies mechanical or technical issues, performing calibration and troubleshooting on equipment. Communicates problems to information services or clinical engineering, cleans and stocks equipment and supplies, and maintains emergency medications and supplies.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transportation tasks that require lifting and pushing/pulling, utilizing proper techniques.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients served. Must understand the principles of growth and development across the lifespan and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, interpreting the necessary information to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs, and to provide the required care as outlined in departmental policies and procedures. Age-specific information is further developed in departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within a specified timeframe unless exempted by the department leader.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must also be obtained within a specified timeframe unless exempted by the department leader.
Education Required:
  • High School Diploma.
Experience Required:
  • No prior experience necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Completion of an approved basic ECG interpretation course is required within one year of hire.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with physicians, patients, and other staff members.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Must be capable of:
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • Lifting up to 20 lbs. overhead.
  • Carring up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Pushing/pulling with 30 lbs. of force.
  • Performing a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Frequently pushing and pulling over 100 lbs. to transport and maneuver patients and ECG equipment.
  • Using hands for fine manipulation, particularly in the application of electrodes.
  • Having functional hearing and speech for effective communication, along with good vision and touch for task performance.
  • Being exposed to patients and potential electrical hazards, necessitating the ability to wear protective clothing as required.
  • Operating all necessary equipment to perform the job.
  • Any exceptions to the above mental and physical requirements must be documented through Employee Health.
