Position Overview

The Family Support Specialist role presents an opportunity to deliver essential resources to families. In this capacity, you will collaborate with families, individuals, and community stakeholders to provide support in navigating challenges and fostering stronger family units and communities. Through advocacy, goal-setting, and connecting families with community resources, the Family Support Specialist will assist families in identifying obstacles, enhancing their strengths, and equipping parents with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage stress, cultivate resilience, and create nurturing environments for their overall health and well-being.

FSA Cares is committed to being a trauma-informed and resilience-focused organization. Recognizing that working with individuals affected by trauma can impact staff in various ways, we actively implement strategies to support our team in maintaining a healthy and sustainable balance of care for themselves and those they serve.

Key Responsibilities
  • Employ assessment techniques and screening tools to evaluate families and determine suitable services (case management, information and referral, parent education).
  • Develop a thorough understanding of community resources and consistently provide appropriate referrals to assist individuals in accessing social, educational, and health services.
  • Act as a bridge between families, educational institutions, and the community to promote academic achievement, social-emotional health, and family wellness.
  • Foster parental engagement and social connections by offering participation opportunities such as workshops and community gatherings.
  • Deliver educational resources to enhance parents' understanding of child development.
  • Provide interpretation and translation support as necessary to facilitate communication between families and community services.
  • Participate in outreach initiatives and represent FSA Cares at collaborative meetings and community events.
  • Utilize databases to monitor and evaluate program interactions, events, and outcomes.
  • Attend meetings with community partners to coordinate services and ensure continuity of care. Services may be delivered in various settings, including homes and community spaces, with potential for flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends.
  • Work closely with school personnel, such as social workers and administrators, as needed.
  • Contribute to program objectives and ensure that services provided align with professional standards.
Position Qualifications

Employment Criteria:
  • Relevant work experience or a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or education.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken, is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a school or community environment providing services to children and/or families.
  • Possess a warm and empathetic interpersonal style to build trusting relationships with children, parents, guardians, health professionals, and community organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to provide culturally relevant services.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in service delivery to meet the unique needs of families is essential.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license, proof of vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.

  • This is a full-time (40 hours/week) non-exempt position, offering a comprehensive benefits package. Benefits include flexible spending accounts, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a retirement plan. Generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave are also provided.
  • Compensation is based on education and experience, with starting pay for candidates without a BA at $23.00/hour and $25.00/hour for those with a BA.
