OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

This role is dedicated to supporting young individuals within the community, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere by engaging in meaningful conversations and reading activities, connecting them with literature, and promoting various programs and services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Warmly welcomes youth and their guardians upon arrival in designated areas; actively engages both adults and children in discussions and activities, fostering the use of library resources.
  2. Guides youth and their guardians in selecting books suited to their reading abilities.
  3. Facilitates reading sessions with youth, either individually or in small groups; motivates parents and guardians to read and borrow materials.
  4. Offers age-appropriate activities tailored for all youth.
  5. Promotes participation in youth programs; provides information about available offerings to children, teens, parents, and guardians. Assists with youth programming as required.
  6. Encourages youth to engage in the Summer Reading Challenge.
  7. Assists patrons with public technology.
  8. Helps in organizing and displaying books, maintaining a tidy area, and replenishing displays.
  9. Facilitates group registration for programs.
  10. May address basic reference inquiries.
  11. Upholds the Code of Conduct by addressing customer behavior when necessary; notifies Security Officer and/or management about any suspicious activities or safety concerns.
  12. Performs additional tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  2. 1-3 years of experience working with youth of varying ages is essential.
  3. A genuine interest in working with children of all ages is required.
  4. Demonstrates a customer-focused approach by utilizing insights gained from interactions with patrons. Meets the expectations and needs of both external and internal customers.
  5. Proficient in using library technology, including personal computers, email, software applications (i.e., Windows/Microsoft Office), and other job-related tools and systems.
  6. Possesses reliable transportation to ensure timely arrival at job assignments and other necessary locations.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work setting involves typical risks or discomforts that necessitate standard safety measures common to environments such as offices, meeting rooms, libraries, and vehicles (e.g., adhering to safe workplace practices with office equipment, preventing trips and falls, following fire safety regulations, and/or working in moderate outdoor conditions).

Job responsibilities may require occasional lifting or pushing of items weighing up to 20 lbs. and frequent lifting or pushing of items weighing up to 10 lbs.
