About the Role

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated individuals to join our team as Cyber Warfare Specialists. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting the US Navy's mission to protect and defend national security interests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze foreign language communications of interest
  • Transcribe, translate, and interpret foreign language materials
  • Report highly technical information of strategic and tactical importance to fleet commanders and national intelligence agencies
  • Provide cultural and regional guidance in support of Navy, Joint Force, national, and multinational needs
  • Operate sophisticated state-of-the-art electronic radio receivers, recording devices, computer terminals, and associated peripherals in the communications signals environment
Work Environment

Cyber Warfare Specialists will perform a variety of duties worldwide, at numerous overseas and stateside shore commands, aboard surface ships, aircraft, and submarines. They will generally divide time between assignments ashore and afloat.

Training and Advancement

Upon completion of initial training, Cyber Warfare Specialists will report for specialized training, including comprehensive foreign language instruction at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA. They will also have the opportunity to attend annual training for language maintenance and take intermediate and advanced foreign language training.

Education Opportunities

The US Navy offers a range of education opportunities, including access to professional credentials and certifications, and the opportunity to earn credit hours toward a bachelor's or associate degree through the American Council on Education. Cyber Warfare Specialists may also continue their education through undergraduate degree opportunities like the Navy College Program and Tuition Assistance and the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

Qualifications and Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent is required to become a Cyber Warfare Specialist in the US Navy. Those seeking this role must be U.S. citizens and meet eligibility requirements for a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance. Normal hearing is also required.

Cyber Warfare Specialists should have exceptionally good character, the ability to learn foreign languages, above-average writing and speaking skills, a good memory, curiosity, resourcefulness, an orientation toward ideas and information, and the ability to keep accurate records and work with details. Adaptability to a wide range of work activities and environments and an interest in technology and willingness to acquire computerized skills are also important.

Part-Time Opportunities

The US Navy offers part-time opportunities as a Cyber Warfare Specialist in the Navy Reserve. As a part-time member of the Navy Reserve, Cyber Warfare Specialists will perform duties during their scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, they will typically work at a location close to their homes. For annual training, they may serve anywhere in the world, whether on a ship at sea or at bases and installations on shore.
