To provide comprehensive eye care services to patients with a wide range of visual problems, diagnose and treat visual diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, and refer patients to other appropriate Kaiser Permanente providers as needed for further evaluation and treatment.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct thorough eye exams using advanced optometry instruments and techniques to diagnose and treat visual problems.
- Prescribe and fit contact lenses to meet the visual needs of patients.
- Determine the visual requirements of patients with partial sight and prescribe low-vision aids such as telescopic and microscopic lenses, magnifiers, and other optical devices to aid low-vision patients.
- Use diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to detect and diagnose ocular pathology, and use examination techniques to determine ocular signs of systemic diseases and medications.
- Collaborate with internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology teams to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in departmental and educational meetings, including peer review activities, to stay up-to-date on best practices and share knowledge with colleagues.
- Develop and implement eye care education programs for medical center staff and patients.
- Under the standing orders of a physician and in co-management with an ophthalmologist, evaluate and manage anterior segment disorders.
- Minimum of one year of experience or successful completion of an accredited optometry residency program.
- Graduation from an accredited school of Optometry required.
- Licensed Optometrist (in the state where care is provided).
- National Provider Identifier.
- Enrollment in PECOS within 90 days of hire date required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in an interdisciplinary health care environment preferred or successful completion of an accredited residency program.
- Accredited residency in Optometry preferred.
