Substance Abuse Court Coordinator

ROLE SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Specialty Courts Administrator, the Substance Abuse Court Coordinator is tasked with delivering case management services to individuals participating in Drug Treatment Court and Sobriety Court. The primary focus of this role is to oversee participant progress in meeting program criteria and to connect clients with necessary services, including treatment and supplementary support.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, with a capacity to articulate rational justifications for proposed goals and strategies.
- Proficient in operating standard office equipment such as computers, printers, multi-line telephones, and fax machines.
- Strong proofreading capabilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and possess excellent typing skills.
- Able to learn and utilize industry-specific software and other applications relevant to job functions.
- Capable of reading, analyzing, and organizing legal documents, statutes, and procedural guidelines.
- Willingness to stay updated with technological advancements, including new software and hardware.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with a high volume of clients in a professional and courteous manner.
- Professional communication skills with case parties, legal representatives, colleagues, and others.
- Ability to prioritize and manage a large caseload effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through training opportunities.
- Ability to perform job duties and provide services in an unbiased manner.
- Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health issues.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Familiarity with computer operations and the ability to document data as mandated by funding requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct interviews and screenings for treatment court referrals, providing recommendations for program enrollment.
- Evaluate and assess risks posed by offenders to the community.
- Identify the underlying causes of substance abuse, determine suitable treatment levels, and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Provide in-person guidance and report participant progress to relevant stakeholders and the court.
- Engage in collaborative planning sessions with other criminal justice and human services organizations to address various issues affecting participants.
- Act as a liaison with ancillary service providers, including vocational, rehabilitation, educational, transportation, legal aid, and treatment services.
- Meet regularly with participants to monitor their progress and ensure compliance with court mandates.
- Oversee participants' employment, training, education, transportation, and living arrangements.
- Coordinate a network of service providers, encompassing both treatment and ancillary services.
- Prepare bi-weekly court documentation reflecting participant progress and attend court sessions.
- Transport participants to long-term and local resource agencies when necessary.
- Monitor participants' sobriety through observed urine testing as required.
- Complete various assessments for federal and state funding purposes.
- Draft written court reports and provide testimony in court proceedings.
- Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information.
- Participate in statewide and national conferences.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in criminal justice, substance abuse, mental health, probation, child welfare, or a related court environment. Relevant experience may substitute for formal education. Individuals with lived experience are encouraged to apply. A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required. The ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks of varying complexity is essential. Candidates should be equipped to respond appropriately to crisis situations and demonstrate proficiency with standard office applications.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is classified as at-will employment. Adherence to the Court's Model Code of Conduct for Judicial Branch Employees is mandatory. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, criminal history review, fingerprinting, and drug screening. Applicants must complete the required application form.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role involves operating various office equipment, including computers and printers. The position may require light physical effort, with some lifting and carrying of objects over 25 pounds. Work is primarily conducted in an office setting, but may also occur in unsecured environments, necessitating sound judgment in supervising defendants. Travel is required for home visits, meetings, and participant transportation.
