Position Overview

The Supplier Quality Engineer collaborates with the Global Supply Chain and Engineering teams to evaluate and enhance the strategic global supply chain. This role is pivotal in managing supplier quality systematically through the execution of the Supplier Quality Program. The Supplier Quality Engineer demonstrates strong leadership to swiftly address supplier-related challenges and promote ongoing enhancements in supplier performance globally.

  • Analyze engineering and manufacturing specifications to facilitate communication between product engineers and suppliers.
  • Lead or participate in global cross-functional supplier validation audits to evaluate the Quality Management Systems of new or existing suppliers.
  • Support the Global Supply Chain approval process by evaluating supplier manufacturing capabilities.
  • Conduct on-site supplier assessments for root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions taken to resolve known quality issues.
  • Review supplier manufacturing processes and work collaboratively with suppliers to implement process enhancements.
  • Aggregate and assess supplier performance data to gauge overall Global Supplier performance.
  • Champion and lead initiatives for process improvements at supplier locations.
  • Engage in cross-functional teams for the development of new products or modifications to existing products.
  • Work with quality control teams across various plants to address defective materials or components from suppliers, ensuring appropriate corrective and preventive measures are established.
  • Prepare detailed quality assessment reports for critical global suppliers.
  • Facilitate the escalation of unresolved supplier quality issues to achieve successful resolutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement enhancements that support manufacturing operations and continuous improvement efforts worldwide.
  • Utilize appropriate quality tools and methodologies, such as DOE, RCCA, 8D, MSA, FAI, sampling plans, process capability analysis, FTA, and SPC, to efficiently resolve supplier quality challenges.

Qualifications

  1. Education
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited institution.
  1. Experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in Supplier Quality Engineering within an industrial manufacturing setting (automotive, heavy equipment, or custom manufacturing).
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working with global suppliers.
  1. Other Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 standards.
  • Proficient understanding of welding processes.
  • Exceptional data analytics and reporting capabilities.
  • Solid mechanical knowledge.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
  1. Interpersonal Skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead teams collaboratively in a diverse, cross-functional global environment.
  1. Technical Skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, ERP systems, and data analytics.
  • Capable of reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical data and drawings.
  1. Other Skills
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities.
  • Excellent judgment skills, with the capacity to make decisions independently.

Travel Requirements

  • 5%-25% domestic and international travel may be required.
  1. Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in Quality Engineering (CQE).
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt or higher certification.
