Job Description

The Supplier Quality Engineer at Harsco Rail works closely with the Global Supply Chain and Global Engineering Departments to assess and develop the company's strategic global supply chain. This role is responsible for the systematic management of supplier quality through the implementation of the Supplier Quality Program/Process. The Supplier Quality Engineer provides strong leadership to manage supplier-related issues and drive continual improvements in global supplier performance.

  • Collaborate with product engineers and vendors to review engineering and manufacturing specifications.
  • Lead global cross-functional supplier validation audits to assess new or existing suppliers' Quality Management Systems.
  • Assist in the Global Supply Chain approval process by evaluating supplier manufacturing capabilities.
  • Conduct onsite supplier visits to analyze root causes and verify corrective actions taken by suppliers.
  • Review supplier manufacturing processes and collaborate with suppliers on process improvements.
  • Analyze supplier performance data to identify global supplier performance trends.
  • Support and lead process improvement initiatives at suppliers.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to develop new products or changes related to current products.
  • Collaborate with quality control personnel to address defective supplier material or parts.
  • Generate comprehensive quality assessment reports for critical global suppliers.
  • Escalate unresolved supplier quality issues to ensure successful resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement improvements in support of Manufacturing operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Apply quality tools and methods, such as DOE, RCCA, 8D, MSA, FAI, sampling plans, process capability analysis, FTA, and SPC, to resolve supplier quality issues efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Education
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Experience
  • A minimum of 3+ years of Supplier Quality Engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of 1 year of Global supplier experience.
  • Other Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • Strong knowledge of welding.
  • Strong data analytics and reporting skills.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge.
  • Ability to travel globally.
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and work in a diverse global environment.
  • Technical Skills
  • Proficient with MS Office and ERP systems.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data.
  • Other Skills
  • Effective planning and organization skills.
  • Strong judgment skills to make decisions with little guidance.

  • 5%-25% domestic and international travel.
