Job Summary

The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Tech is responsible for delivering direct and indirect patient care in compliance with regulatory and department processes during various Cardiovascular, Electrophysiology, Interventional Radiology, or Neuro Interventional procedures.

This role requires proficiency in all aspects of diagnostic and interventional procedures, preparation, assessment, documentation, and monitoring consistent with policies, procedures, and processes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving system and department goals, quality, and fiscal targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proficiently performs diagnostic procedures in at least one of the Heart and Vascular Laboratory areas: interventional coronary, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and/or interventional neurology.
  • Performs all aspects of monitoring, recording, scrubbing, holding room responsibilities, and/or stimming with professionalism and expertise.
  • Identifies and prepares patient using aseptic technique as dictated by procedure ordered.
  • Ensures adherence to and enforces radiation safety standards.
  • Recognizes and communicates electrocardiographic/hemodynamic changes to the physician and appropriate staff members throughout the procedure.
  • Recognizes potential emergency/life-threatening situations and implements preventative measures as directed by the physician.
  • Maintains accurate and complete procedural documentation for each patient based on the scope and complexity of the intervention procedure and patient clinical conditions.
  • Participates in inventory and supply management.
  • Annually meets all required department-specific competencies.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a program for any/one/of the following: Cardiopulmonary Technology/Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, Respiratory Therapy, Radiological Technology, EMS-P, Surgical Technology, Cardiovascular Tech, or Completion of an On-The-Job-Training Tech program.
  • AART required and maintained for Radiological Technologist program graduates.
  • RRT required and maintained for Respiratory Therapist program graduates.
  • EMT-P Certification required and maintained for Paramedic program graduates.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
  • VI or RCIS or RCES or CI preferred.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Healthcare Provider Completion Card must be obtained within 90 days of hire/transfer and maintained.
  • NIH (Stroke) required within one (1) year of hire/transfer into Neuro Interventional Lab and maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to take call acknowledging emergency alerts within five (5) minutes and present to hospital within 30 minutes of alert.
  • Knowledge of ECG training and arrhythmia interpretation.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular and vascular anatomy.
  • Knowledge of Hemodynamic Monitoring.
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of MS Office – Outlook and Word.
  • Excellent communication skills in an active team environment.
  • Ability to assess and interpret data.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with patient/family/physicians at various levels of understanding.
  • Ability to monitor patient blood pressure, ECG, and Pulse Oximetry using sophisticated clinical equipment.
