Position Overview

  • Develop and verify intricate structural engineering outputs, including steel calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
  • Review and synchronize technical documents with various engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction teams.
  • Generate technical reports addressing specific design challenges.
  • Oversee designated project tasks and responsibilities.
  • Contribute to constructability assessments.
  • Assist construction efforts by addressing field change requests and nonconformance reports.
  • Serve as a mentor or guide for junior engineers and designers.
  • Organize and manage off-project review requirements for engineering outputs.
  • Lead and/or engage in technical discussions with clients, suppliers, and construction personnel.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Basic Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Previous experience with complex concrete and/or steel design projects.

Essential Qualifications

  • Capability to independently carry out the detailed design of complex steel and/or concrete structures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual and ASCE 7 standards.
  • Proficient in structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or STAAD.
  • Experience with CADD tools, including Revit or Tekla.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • In-depth understanding of engineering outputs, including drawings, specifications, and material requisitions, as well as construction methods for steel structures.
  • Awareness of the workflows of other disciplines and departments involved in projects.
  • Ability to articulate technical matters clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally.
  • Proficient in resolving design challenges with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction teams, and clients.
  • Strong listening, oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills are crucial.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled in using Mathcad or similar software.
  • Thorough understanding of AISC & ASCE 7 provisions.
  • Ability to present technical topics with competence and confidence.
  • Experience in addressing field issues related to proposed changes from construction and managing non-conformance situations.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineering License.
