About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Cost Engineer to join our team at Amazon. As a key member of our Cost Control team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of our Data Center construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize tools and templates for bid analysis and cost management to ensure accurate and timely cost estimates.
  • Engage and manage third-party Quantity Surveyor vendors to ensure seamless collaboration and effective cost control.
  • Communicate cost control goals and objectives to all stakeholders, including internal and external teams.
  • Identify Value Engineering opportunities in the design and quantify the savings to optimize project costs.
  • Identify project risks and their financial cost impacts, and communicate these to the broader team.
  • Update and maintain a repository of historical data to inform future cost control decisions.
  • Define and track cost performance metrics to ensure project costs are aligned with budget.
  • Analyze and provide timely feedback on Construction vendor proposals using AWS benchmark data.
  • Create accurate bid leveling documents to ensure transparency and fairness in the bidding process.
  • Provide cost analysis of schedule and design variations to inform project decisions.
  • Validate the final award amount and scope based on contract documents, including schedule.
  • Implement, maintain, and execute all cost control, change management, progress, and performance reporting.
  • Validate change cost impacts and ensure accurate and timely vendor invoices.
  • Support the construction team with project close-out and final payments.
  • Deliver results for multiple projects with competing priorities on a consistent basis.
About the Team

Our team is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and are looking for talented individuals who want to help.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction cost control, with specific knowledge of electrical, mechanical, or ASC cost elements.
  • 2+ years of experience with Data Center or other mission-critical construction environments.
  • 2+ years of experience as a program manager.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience reviewing and justifying budgets.
  • Experience communicating estimate strategy to construction and non-construction professionals.
  • Ability to create and maintain documentation.
  • Experience with estimating software such as CostX, Cubit, Onscreen takeoff, Timberline, and Bluebeam, and an MS Office Suite 'power user'.
