Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough investigations into allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults, providing ongoing case management to protective services clients. This includes home visits, collateral interviews, and documentation.
- Develop and implement comprehensive Service Plans that may include medical, legal, housing, and in-home care services.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date case records in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Offer consultation to staff and community agencies regarding Protective Services cases.
- Participate in an on-call team to address consumer needs after hours.
- Perform additional related duties as necessary.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- A master's degree or higher from an accredited institution in social work, psychology, counseling, human development, nursing, sociology, criminal justice, public health, public policy, or gerontology, along with at least one year of relevant experience; or
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the aforementioned fields, coupled with a minimum of two years of experience in counseling, casework, or case management focused on protective or crisis intervention services.
- At least two years of experience in counseling, casework, or case management related to protective or crisis intervention services.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, possess strong communication skills, and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Knowledge of medical, mental health, and social service delivery systems, as well as record-keeping practices.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Visual, auditory, and mobile capacity necessary for performing job functions, including the ability to see a computer screen, read written materials, and drive.
- Capacity to communicate verbally with consumers, caregivers, supervisors, and managers.
- Ability to navigate various terrains and climates while visiting consumers in their homes.
- Capability to sit or stand for extended periods and perform occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to understand and interpret complex program instructions and laws.
- Capacity to adapt to a fast-paced and changing work environment.
Work Environment
The role involves a mix of indoor office work and outdoor travel for meetings, training, and home visits. The specialist must be able to tolerate various environmental factors, including odors and pollutants from diverse home conditions and office equipment.
