Role Summary: We are seeking a Project VDC Engineer II to contribute to our projects. This role entails overseeing various aspects of construction projects, focusing on the design, management, and execution of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) systems. The VDC Engineer II will enhance collaboration among project teams and optimize VDC application on assigned projects, typically reporting to the VDC Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize 3D, 4D, and 5D digital resources to support the design and implementation of VDC systems.
  • Facilitate efficient workflows throughout the project lifecycle by working closely with preconstruction and field operation teams.
  • Assist in developing execution plans, conducting quantity takeoffs, coordinating constructability, and visualizing requests for information (RFI).
  • Create 3D and 4D models, renderings, and simulations for various project-related presentations and operational efforts.
  • Research and assist in the adoption of new software and hardware technologies.
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement and propose solutions for management consideration.
  • Compile metrics for management review.
  • Enhance the company’s reputation as a leader in operational excellence and innovative project delivery.
  • Support marketing and business development efforts by promoting VDC capabilities.
  • Manage project models, including:
    • Maintaining site models and logistics plans.
    • Handling RFIs and design updates.
    • Tracking and developing trade/construction models.
    • Maintaining consolidated coordination models.
    • Compiling final as-built models.
  • Oversee VDC technology responsibilities, which may include:
    • Conducting weekly drone flights and processing data.
    • Implementing laser scanning and reality capture techniques.
    • Utilizing robotic systems for layout.
    • Managing reality capture production programs.
  • Conduct daily/weekly quality assurance walks to compare models with actual construction conditions, logging deviations and coordinating updates.
  • Perform project engineering tasks such as submittals and trade management as directed.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of two years in a construction role supporting VDC is required. Familiarity with LEAN principles is a plus. OSHA 10 or 30 certification is preferred or the willingness to obtain it upon hire.
  • Skills: The ideal candidate will exhibit initiative, independent judgment, and strong analytical and organizational skills. Attention to detail, effective communication, time management, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities are essential.
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with basic software programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook is necessary. Proficiency in Autodesk software (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks) and a general understanding of VDC software (SketchUp, Fuzor, Infraworks, Adobe Suite) is required, along with the ability to learn additional software as needed.
  • Experience with drones (FAA Part 107 Certificate), LiDAR scanning, and data processing is preferred.
