Principal Management Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Management Engineer to join our team at Henry Ford Health System. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading complex projects and initiatives across the health system, applying a variety of improvement methodologies and group management techniques to drive process improvements and enhance patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement project scope documents and project plans, including gathering information, estimating resources, and establishing timelines for completion.
- Identify core processes for end-to-end focus and apply the use of the HFHS Model for Improvement, incorporating the use of PI tools (Lean, six sigma, TOC, etc.) when appropriate.
- Lead improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other problem-solving methods, consistently employing and customizing a combination of problem-solving approaches, frameworks, and methodologies to target problems.
- Lead multiple complex projects and programs through entire life cycles, including complex cross-department projects, managing customer expectations, and socializing ideas to gain buy-in.
- Drive implementation of critical business metrics and ongoing end-to-end process reviews, including identifying key processes and their indicators, establishing baseline metrics, reporting through financial and business review processes, and developing and maximizing improvement plans.
- Provide expertise using basic change management tools and methods to ensure successful and sustainable implementation of improvements, coaching and mentoring team members and process owners to utilize a defined PDCA process improvement methodology, incorporating PI methods that ensure the use and appropriate interpretation of data for decision-making.
- Bachelor's degree required in industrial or related engineering, nursing, business administration (with quality/operations improvement emphasis), healthcare administration (with quality/operations improvement emphasis), organizational development, human factors, or a science degree in a related field.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience required, with equivalent industry training and experience preferred.
- Ability to manage simultaneous assignments with potentially conflicting priorities and deadlines, be flexible and adaptable while still meeting goals and due dates, and apply problem-solving approaches.
- Growing base of analytical/technical, facilitative, and process improvement tools/knowledge, strong knowledge of effective data gathering techniques, and ability to thrive in a matrixed working environment.
