Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for a specific group of patients. The RN plays a crucial role in coordinating and directing care as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to the effective functioning of the unit and enhancing patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance professional and technical expertise by participating in educational workshops, reviewing relevant literature, building professional networks, and engaging in nursing organizations.
  • Ensure high-quality patient care by adhering to established therapeutic standards, evaluating health outcomes against care objectives, making necessary adjustments, and complying with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Safeguard patients and staff by following infection control protocols, medication management guidelines, and regulations regarding controlled substances.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care by recording information in patient and departmental records.
  • Foster continuity of care among nursing teams by effectively communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs using established communication techniques.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and protect operational integrity by safeguarding sensitive information.
  • Assess patient care needs by establishing rapport with patients and their families to understand their requirements.
  • Create a supportive environment by offering emotional, psychological, and spiritual assistance to patients and their families.
  • Encourage patient autonomy by setting care goals, educating patients and families about conditions, medications, and self-care practices, and addressing inquiries.
  • Ensure a safe and hygienic work environment by adhering to safety protocols and seeking assistance from healthcare support staff when necessary.
  • Address patient concerns and needs through collaborative strategies with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Cultivate a cooperative atmosphere among healthcare teams by sharing information, responding to inquiries, building relationships, and engaging in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to team objectives by achieving related results as required.
  • Maintain equipment functionality by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, requesting repairs, managing equipment inventories, and evaluating new technologies.
  • Manage nursing supplies inventory by monitoring stock levels, anticipating needs, placing orders, verifying receipt, and utilizing supplies efficiently.

Specialized Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in interpreting and managing arrhythmias.
    • Analyze rhythm strips.
    • Administer appropriate treatments for arrhythmias.
    • Follow established protocols for medication administration related to arrhythmias.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program is mandatory.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, organizational skills, independent and critical thinking abilities, sound judgment, and understanding of legal aspects of nursing practice.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex topics to diverse audiences.
  • A nursing refresher course may be necessary if the candidate has not worked in an acute care setting for the last three consecutive years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience in medical/surgical, progressive care unit (PCU), or critical care.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

Licensure and Certifications

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the relevant state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved provider.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or completion within one year of hire.
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification or completion within six months of hire.
  • Required clearances as per state regulations.

Supervisory Role

  • This role does not include direct supervisory responsibilities but may involve mentoring and coaching colleagues.

Work Schedule

  • The schedule will be determined based on operational needs, including rotating shifts and on-call duties.
  • Local travel between healthcare facilities may be required.
