Adoption and Retention Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Adoption and Retention Specialist to join our team at the State of New Mexico. This role will play a critical part in supporting the well-being of children and families in our state by ensuring the stability and safety of foster care placements and promoting adoption.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert case consultation to field staff on foster care and adoption services, including placement, licensing, and retention activities.
- Offer crisis intervention to foster parents to increase placement stability and reduce maltreatment in foster care.
- Support relative families in providing care for kin and conduct licensing and retention activities.
- Provide pre- and post-services to adoptive families, including crisis intervention and therapeutic services to support placement stability.
- Develop and deliver training to potential adoptive and foster parents.
- Hold quarterly support groups on various topics of interest.
- Collaborate with county staff, resource families, providers, and community members to ensure effective placement and support services.
- Promote foster care and adoption programs in the community through public speaking and recruitment activities.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of current policies and procedures, including the Children's Code, Adoption Act, ASFA, and Foster Care Regulations.
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field from an accredited college/university and licensure by the New Mexico Board of Social Work Examiners at the LBSW, LMSW, or LISW level.
- Two years of experience in social work, case management, or a related field, including working with communities on health or social service-related matters.
This role requires working in an office setting, with late hours, weekends, on-call, and callback work possible. The incumbent will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel is required, and the incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints.
The incumbent will be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments, which may include transporting clients, including children. Must have own mode of transportation.
