Environmental Sustainability Specialist

Perdue Farms is seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to join our team at our Rockingham, NC Harvest facility. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all current and future Federal, State, and local Environmental Regulatory requirements.

• Ensure compliance with permit conditions, including the renewal of permits.
• Manage environmental areas of concern, including air, storm water, waste water, recycling, hazardous waste, solid waste, bio-solid land application, and chemical compliance.
• Develop and implement sustainable waste recycling programs to reduce the facility's carbon footprint.
• Establish and implement activities to reduce the facility's consumption of natural gas, diesel fuel, electricity, compressed air, steam, and water.
• Supervise and manage general associates, including hiring, training, and developing associates to ensure production requirements, environmental regulation, and carbon footprint reduction goals are met at the lowest cost.
• Provide timely, accurate, and consistent reports to internal and external customers, including safety, production, human resources, administrative, and regulatory community.
• Practice good community and public education and relations.
• Provide a safe work environment for all associates by eliminating unsafe acts or conditions and adhering to all company safety policies.
• Order all parts, supplies, chemicals, etc. required by the department and monitor all activities related to the wastewater department.
• Control cost and assets to manage within established goals.
• Share dotted-line responsibility to the Director, Environment Services, and provide notification of activities, spill releases, and non-compliance in a timely manner.
• Conduct environmental audits of other facilities as required.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or Biological Science.
• 6 years of related work experience.
• Strong reading, math, writing, communication, and analytical skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively communicate in other verbal and written form.
• Waste water license to the degree required operating the largest waste water treatment facility with the complexes.
• Must meet requirements of the Company safety handbook.
• Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Requires travel to remote facilities and/or offices for meetings.

• Must be able to fulfill responsibilities in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to walk for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to move light equipment or supplies as needed.
• Must be willing to travel.
• Possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive extended distances.
