Job Summary:

The EMS Education Coordinator plays a vital role in the development and maintenance of quality patient care and professional practice standards. As an EMS provider, educator, evaluator, consultant, and researcher, this individual will adhere to MercyOne's performance expectations and perform all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of MercyOne.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of new ambulance colleague orientation.
  • Facilitate department continuing education, including actual instruction of prepared materials.
  • Identify and implement practices and procedures that are research-based to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of professional practice standards.
  • Participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program.
  • Transport sick or injured patients by conducting initial and ongoing assessments, following established guidelines and protocols, evaluating treatment outcomes, and communicating with healthcare professionals.
  • Assist in the Emergency Room and ICU with assessments, vital signs, documentation, IV's, airways, and ECG's.
  • Adhere to all safety, infection control, and colleague health policies and procedures.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, the EMS Education Coordinator must possess a graduate degree from an Iowa Critical Care Paramedic Program, be certified as an Iowa Paramedic or RN exemption, and have a minimum of 5 years of ambulance experience. Additionally, the individual must hold a valid IA Class C driver's license, have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), and be a BLS provider, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and PHTLS. Mandatory Reporter and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training (NVCI) within 6 months of hire is also required. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with diverse groups of people, convey a positive image, and build positive relationships with others, as well as work under pressure. Ability to travel to all locations via personal vehicle is also necessary.
