Job Summary

Instructor reports to the Director of the Correctional Education Program at Lamar State College-Port Arthur. The instructor will be responsible for providing instruction for the Inmate Education Program. Duties and responsibilities include providing classroom instruction in philosophy classes using face-to-face delivery, utilizing leadership in the implementation of curriculum. Perform other duties as assigned. Must be able to meet and maintain clearance requirements of the FCC-Beaumont and Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree and 18 graduate hours in philosophy or a closely related field.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.

While Performing the Duties of This Job

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, speak, listen, and see.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, lift, push, pull and carry objects.

Working Conditions

  • Normal classroom setting.
  • Some hazardous conditions may exist.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in philosophy degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Ability to understand the teaching and evaluation methodologies used in the total instructional process.
  • Ability to deal with students, faculty, and staff members in a professional manner.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide quality and innovative instruction while working independently in the classroom.
  • Maintain current knowledge and expertise in the subject area of teaching responsibility.
  • Commitment to the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum-based ACGM outcomes, and Core Curriculum outcomes.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork within required timeframes.
  • Attend faculty meetings and professional development as required.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain ethical and professional behavior.
  • Establish effective working relationships with others.
  • Follow established college policies and procedures.
  • Work with little or no supervision.
