Assembly Technician I

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Responsible for the assembly of mechanical and electro-mechanical components, parts, hardware, and various security products related to door management; setup of tasks; packaging of products, and other associated responsibilities as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ability to interpret and analyze bills of materials (BOM) to accurately select materials needed for scheduled production tasks.
  • Assembles mechanical and electro-mechanical components, parts, hardware, and other door management security products utilizing various components, including electronic parts, printed circuit boards, enclosures, plates, boxes, fasteners, and wiring. Achieves or surpasses established performance standards.
  • Utilizes machines, hand tools, small power tools, voltage meters, and testing devices to assemble and evaluate products.
  • Reviews production orders to ensure adequate materials, tools, equipment, and resources are available for manufacturing operations.
  • Interprets process documentation and assembles components for both standard and custom orders.
  • Works from samples, technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, as well as written and verbal directives.
  • Strips and wraps wires, solders components, and connects wiring to units.
  • Inserts small components and/or wiring into printed circuit boards.
  • Packages products and prepares them for distribution, ensuring all packaging meets quality standards.
  • Maintains departmental records and logs.
  • Reads production orders or follows verbal instructions to determine required materials.
  • Attaches identifying labels to finished products, containers, and part boxes according to work instructions. Assists in the movement of materials, parts, and products as necessary.
  • Identifies item specifications and storage locations. Organizes items in bins, racks, or shelves according to part numbers.
  • Ensures compliance with assigned production work orders. Executes scheduled tasks as planned. Communicates any discrepancies immediately.
  • Conducts in-process inspections to verify that products meet specifications and quality standards, reporting any variances to the lead or supervisor.
  • Collaborates with Quality Auditors to ensure all production outputs conform to specifications, minimizing product variances, waste, and customer complaints.
  • Takes ownership of production responsibilities: accountable for efficiency, productivity, and accuracy of produced items to reduce backlog.
  • Attendance: punctuality is essential at the start of shifts, after breaks, and readiness to work immediately upon clocking in.
  • Maintains professional appearance and communication standards to foster a respectful and collaborative work environment.
  • Supports cross-training initiatives for production staff and new employees.
  • Reports any building, equipment sanitation, OSHA, and safety issues promptly.
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement in production output and workplace cleanliness.
  • Maintains cleanliness, organization, quality control, and safety within the work area.
  • Adheres to established procedures, work instructions, and operational controls to comply with all relevant legal requirements.
  • Follows safe working practices and utilizes required personal protective equipment.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate. Experience in a manufacturing or assembly setting is preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools, small power tools, and soldering equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Competence in performing basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for color coding purposes.
  • Capacity to perform detailed repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Attention to detail with effective planning and time management skills, and willingness to undertake various production-related tasks.
  • Strong listening and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
  • Willingness to work weekends and overtime as necessary.

  • Visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand-eye coordination, near and far vision, depth perception, and manual dexterity are essential for working with various materials and operating basic office equipment.
