About the Job

The Nursing Assistant (NA) plays a vital role in providing patient care in a variety of settings. As a member of the healthcare team, the NA performs a range of tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including assisting with patient admissions, providing nursing care, and participating in patient care planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in patient admissions by establishing rapport and orienting the patient to the physical layout of the unit, hospital, and unit rules and regulations.
  • Provide nursing care to patients of all ages and cultures, including those who are acutely, chronically, or seriously ill.
  • Provide input regarding patient care planning and implementation.
  • Offer constructive suggestions for improvement of patient care and encourage others to do the same.
  • Observe, report, and chart changes in patient condition, attitudes, and complaints.
  • Institute appropriate measures of intervention with patients during behavioral incidents.
  • Encourage the development of patient independence and assist with activities of daily living as appropriate.
  • Share in responsibility for general ward orderliness and sanitation and care of equipment.
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed of supply shortages and defective equipment.
  • Actively participate in developing and maintaining a safe recovery-oriented environment for patients and staff.
  • Assume responsibility for validating own observations and therapeutic patient interventions with professional team members.
  • Actively participate as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Assist the Registered Nurse in the care and treatment of the patient.
  • Recognize emergency situations and intervene within scope of practice while awaiting assistance.
  • Assist the charge nurse with dressing changes and complex procedures.
  • Utilize all lifting equipment to the fullest capability to assist the patient in getting in and out of bed.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work with patients who have serious and sometimes life-threatening illnesses or medical conditions.

The Nursing Assistant will work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and community-based outpatient clinics. The work environment will be fast-paced and may involve exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.
