JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse in Cardiac Rehabilitation is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing the educational needs of patients within the cardiovascular inpatient demographic. This role encompasses post-operative care for CABG patients, as well as pre and post-catheterization education and support for various cardiac conditions. The RN also plays a key role in teaching and leadership within the department, maintaining professionalism in emergency situations and contributing to departmental committees and performance improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Oversee the direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned areas.

· Evaluate the cardiovascular inpatient population to create educational strategies in accordance with AACVPR guidelines.

· Identify individual risk factors related to cardiac and pulmonary diseases and assist in risk stratification.

· Recognize the need for patient reevaluation based on changes in condition.

· Maintain accurate documentation of patient care activities as per departmental and hospital policies.

· Develop tailored educational plans aligned with patient goals and expectations, adjusting as necessary.

· Analyze patient history and medical records to formulate a comprehensive care plan that includes lifestyle modifications.

· Facilitate discharge classes for CABG patients in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

· Manage the transition process from phase I to phase II of cardiac rehabilitation, ensuring appropriate patient assignments.

· Exhibit flexibility by providing services across both hospital campuses.

· Engage in patient education and community outreach programs by organizing classes and delivering instruction.

· Cross-train for the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program and adapt to flexible scheduling as required.

· Demonstrate proficiency in assessing urgent patient situations that necessitate medical intervention, guiding the team in appropriate responses.

· Support departmental operations to ensure budget compliance regarding operational and salary expenses.

· Understand and apply principles of Performance Improvement, seeking opportunities for process enhancement and skill development.

· Uphold confidentiality principles and adhere to legal and regulatory requirements concerning information release.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

· Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Florida.

· A minimum of one year of experience in a cardiology-focused patient care environment is required.

· Critical care experience is preferred.

· In-depth knowledge of cardiac diseases, anatomy, physiology, risk stratification, exercise physiology, and nutrition is essential.

· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory, with Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification recommended for outpatient settings.

· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
