Orlando Health is seeking a highly skilled Proton Therapy Physicist to join our team of medical professionals. As a key member of our Radiation Oncology department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate delivery of proton therapy treatments to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and manage a team of dosimetrists and technical staff to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the proton center.
- Develop and administer a comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) program to ensure the accuracy and safety of proton therapy treatments.
- Collaborate with the Radiation Safety Officer and Radiation Oncology Administration to develop and implement radiation safety policies and procedures.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of the therapy staff and treatment areas to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Assist in the development and implementation of proton-specific training programs for dosimetry, RTTs, and technical staff.
- Develop and maintain performance, acceptance testing, and commissioning specifications for all newly acquired equipment.
- Calculate and certify the use of shielding for new or modified radiation areas.
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists and physics staff on individual patient treatment plans.
- Develop and review new or non-standard treatment techniques.
- Provide statistical analysis for evaluation of treatment efficacy.
- Review and approve charts and tables for all treatment units to ensure accurate calculation of patient treatments.
- Evaluate and approve new or improved treatment aids, applicators, or instruments.
- Research and evaluate new developments in radiation oncology to assess the need for new or improved equipment.
- Implement process changes to increase workflow efficiency.
- Acquire and review proton dosimetry data to ensure accuracy of computer calculations.
- Review and approve new and special treatment procedures.
- Calculate and review benchmark calculations and studies for formal clinical trials and protocols.
- Create a library of disease-specific cases with proton vs. IMRT plan comparisons for training and reference use.
- Assist in providing software and hardware vendors with a works-in-progress list of quality performance issues, bugs, and desired features.
- Perform and evaluate regular calibrations and routine QA checks on all radiation producing equipment.
- Review results of test procedures for computer software updates.
- Supervise the program of weekly chart review for patients under treatment.
- Participate in weekly chart review as assigned.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive process for patient-specific QA.
- Graduate degree in medical physics, physics, biophysics, radiological physics, medical health physics, or equivalent discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Current license in Therapeutic Radiological Physics (State of Florida Department of Health).
- Certification in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics from The American Board of Radiology, The American Board of Medical Physics, or the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine.
- Minimum of 2 years direct clinical experience in therapeutic radiologic physics.
- Proton therapy experience is highly desired.
