Job Title: Orthopedic Technician/Certified Athletic Trainer

Newport Orthopedic Institute is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Orthopedic Technician/Certified Athletic Trainer to join our team. As a key member of our cast room team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support in the cast room, as well as assisting with various administrative tasks.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and position patients for casting procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Fit patients for DME (durable medical equipment) and assist with the application of orthopedic devices.
  • Perform routine examination and treatment procedures, including removing casts, cleaning wounds, and applying medication and dressings.
  • Update patient records to reflect up-to-date patient progress, care plans, and related orthopedic data prescribed by physicians.
  • Assemble metal or fiberglass material to make orthopedic splints and instruct patients on cast wear, wound care, and swelling management.
  • Adjust crutches and canes to fit patients and assist with walking with casts, braces, and crutches.
Requirements:
  • Certificate from an undergraduate or technical school (Medical Assistant, Certified Athletic Trainer, Orthopedic Technician).
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience as an Orthopedic Technician preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a hospital or clinical setting is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with orthopedic equipment and devices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide compassionate patient service.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

In assisting patients on and off the exam table, the employee must frequently assist persons of varying weights (sometimes more than 50 pounds); other employees available to assist as needed.
