About the Role

The Virginia Dept of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services is seeking a skilled Behavioral Health Technician to join their team in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a high level of emotional intelligence, empathy, and communication skills. As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will work closely with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other disabilities, providing support, education, and supervision to help them achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support and supervision to individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other disabilities.
  • Develop and implement personalized care plans to meet the unique needs of each individual.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care and support.
  • Collect and record data and document services provided to individuals.
  • Administer medication (after 90 days of employment) and provide basic first aid and CPR.
Requirements
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, or medical conditions preferred.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including standing, bending, walking, pushing/pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and providing support during all aspects of daily personal care.
