Job Summary

Pharmacy technicians play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications to patients. As a Pharmacy Technician at Kaiser Permanente, you will provide critical support to our pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, while also ensuring patient safety and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process new prescriptions, refill prescriptions, and enter prescription data into the computer system
  • Prepack and label medications, stock shelves, and reconstitute medications as needed
  • Count and pour medications from stock bottles, file prescriptions, and perform inventory functions
  • Release refill medications and OTC products to patients, process requests for refills, and handle non-professional phone calls
  • Identify opportunities to prevent unusual occurrences, perform safety checks, and take appropriate steps to resolve and report unusual occurrences
  • Stay current on clinical initiatives and priorities, and identify specific issues to bring to the attention of pharmacists
  • Understand and administer medication formularies, and follow Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington policies, procedures, and protocols
Requirements
  • Completion of an approved pharmacy technician training program, or equivalent, in order to obtain Department of Health Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (Washington) required at hire
  • Ability to use available resources and tools efficiently and effectively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, and may be required to travel to other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington locations as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) plus year of Pharmacy Technician experience
  • Two (2) plus years of IV experience, or two (2) plus years of warehouse experience
  • Experience interacting with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians
  • Knowledge of managed care health systems and evidence-based medicine theories
