Custodian II

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian II to join our team at the City of St. Augustine, FL. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of our buildings and premises.

• Perform routine custodial tasks, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and scrubbing of floors, as well as waxing and polishing floors and furniture.
• Clean and maintain restrooms, ensuring the availability of lavatory supplies.
• Maintain inventory of janitorial and lavatory supplies, distribute and check the use of supplies, and assist with picking up and delivering supplies as requested.
• Assist new custodial workers in understanding required standards and performing their duties.
• Inform supervisors of any maintenance issues, including graffiti, property damage, vandalism, clogged toilets, urinals, or sinks, sticking flush valves or faucets, damaged dispensers, etc.
• Maintain security, locks, and unlocks doors, gates, etc., and arms and disarms alarm systems where applicable.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance of equipment within the division, including replacing vacuum bags and filters, and replacing pads on floor cleaning machines.
• Perform routine building maintenance, including replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and A/C filters, cleaning light diffusers, A/C vents, elevators, tile walls, partitions, etc.
• Inspect grounds, walkways, hedges, and other common and public areas for litter (cans, bottles, trash, cigarette butts, etc.).
• Accurately complete necessary time sheets, reports, and checklists as required.
• Exercise high standards of public relations, maintaining an excellent attitude toward visitors, management, and other employees, and advising and assisting visitors, tour guides, and co-workers as required.
• Assist with the setup for meetings and/or events, moving furniture to enable cleaning, and as otherwise directed.
• Subject to overtime work and respond to job-related emergencies as needed.

• High school diploma required.
• One (1) year of experience in custodial work.
• Familiarity with a variety of building repair and maintenance functions preferred.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures.
• Valid Florida Driver's License Classification E.
