Provide all cleaning as required on shift to meet the standards of cleanliness for our Science Museum visitors and staff members. Provide excellent customer service, clear communication, and active engagement in following safety and cleaning protocols.

The Custodial II position is responsible for the full range of cleaning duties within the museum. This involves hand cleaning and safe operation of large floor and restroom cleaning equipment including but not limited to push, backpack, walk behind and riding vacuums, burnishers, scrubbers, extractors, Kaivac washers, and pressure washers. Additional equipment operations include trash compactors, and occasional snow removal as needed using shovels and snow blowers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Cleans and cares for the museum to ensure it is maintained at a high level of cleanliness acceptable to our visitors and staff members.

Performs cleaning duties such as restroom cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, restocking dispensers, and emptying trash, recycle and compost containers.

Assists grounds department with duties such as shoveling, ice mitigation, snow blowing, picking up litter and emptying of exterior trash as directed.

Communicates damages, repairs, and vandalism of the building to a custodial lead or a custodial manager and utilizes the service ticket system to submit for applicable repairs.

Maintains equipment by cleaning it daily and following manufacturer's procedures and protocols. Immediately reports all malfunctions and breakdowns.

Follow all safety protocols in order to complete job tasks in compliance with all applicable safety standards, regulations and SMM internal safety procedures.

Maintains an adequate supply of cleaning materials and supplies in custodial closets. Ensure custodial chemicals and supplies are stored safely and properly.

Reports any supply needs to a custodial lead or a custodial manager.

Understands safety protocols for chemicals (SDS), hazardous communications, personal protective equipment (PPE), and blood borne pathogens.

Maintains the security of the SMM Facility including storage areas such as storerooms and custodial closets.

Assists with the coordination and execution of various events ensuring a warm, friendly, and inviting atmosphere for all event participants. May assist in event set up and tear down on occasion.

Behaves in a respectful and courteous manner to internal, external customers and coworkers.

Responsible for monitoring assigned work email. Stays abreast of all workplace communication shared in electronic, written or verbal form. Responds to questions or surveys from supervisors and SMM leadership.

Completes daily checklists and special projects. Communicates progress with lead custodians and custodial managers to complete shift reports.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Ability to read and write in English.

Experience: Previous custodial experience required.

Work Environment:Ability to work indoors and outdoors, sometimes during periods of inclement weather.
Ability to walk long distances for extended periods.
Ability to consistently work in the standing position, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching overhead, twisting, manual manipulation, grasping, and frequent repetitive motions.
Ability to work with power tools and equipment that vibrate at various frequencies.
Ability to professionally clean bodily fluids spills.Ability to climb ladders, step stools, stairs and inclined surfaces.
Ability to work at heights up to 20 feet using a lift and tie off. Ability to push and pull up to 200 pounds, occasionally, using a wheeled cart. Ability to carry up to 50 pounds short distances.
