Overview:

The Educational Support Specialist plays a vital role in the mission of the Catholic educational institution by aiding the classroom educator in planning, guiding, and nurturing students within a compassionate, faith-based environment. This position assists the classroom educator in assessing the educational progress of students, ensuring alignment with the institution's philosophy, structure, and curriculum. The Educational Support Specialist aids in the preparation of instructional resources, supports student engagement, and facilitates learning activities as defined by the educator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promotes and upholds the principles of Catholic education and the mission of the institution.
  • Acts as a role model for Gospel values by embodying the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Complies with the policies and procedures of the institution and Archdiocese, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding institutional matters.
  • Adheres to safety protocols daily, ensuring the safety and well-being of self and others.
  • Responsible for safeguarding the confidentiality of any information obtained during service, including but not limited to client names, services rendered, and financial information.

Planning and Preparation:
  • Assist the educator in preparing materials, teaching aids, and classroom setups for direct instructional activities.
  • Coordinate space for specialized instructional programs and arrange equipment and activity areas.
  • Review unit plans prepared by the educator and anticipate the need for specific supplies and materials.
  • Assist in adapting curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Engage in discussions with the educator regarding student progress.
  • Serve as a substitute educator when necessary.
Administrative and Management Duties:
  • Utilize time effectively.
  • Provide supervision for students during transitions and activities.
  • Assist in maintaining the security of records and materials.
  • Support the educator in enforcing classroom rules and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ensure a clean and organized environment for students.
  • Assist in grading objective tests without assigning final grades.
  • Transport students as required.
Intervention and Direct Services:
  • Provide instructional support as coordinated by the educator or administrator.
  • Lead small group activities in an engaging learning atmosphere.
  • Assist students with personal hygiene and safety issues as needed.
Collaboration:
  • Work closely with educators and professionals to foster a quality instructional environment.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED).
Experience:
  • Two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; or (b) Associate's or higher degree; or (c) Knowledge and ability to assist in instruction in core subjects.
  • Experience working with children in day camps, youth groups, private schools, or licensed daycare centers.
Licenses and Credentials:
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid driver license.
  • Valid vehicle insurance.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of school procedures and policies; ability to adapt to various situations.
  • Familiarity with techniques for working with diverse student populations.
  • Effective communication skills with students, educators, and parents.
  • Ability to plan and implement instructional activities.
  • Proficiency in operating various technologies and equipment.
  • Capability to perform clerical tasks.
