Position: Production Lead – Apple Division
Department: Apple
Status: Non-exempt
Classification: Regular Full-time
Reports To: Plant Manager
Supervisory Role: Yes
Shift: 3:45 PM to 3:45 AM, Saturday through Tuesday
Role Summary: This position involves overseeing all production activities within the Apple Division, ensuring high standards of quality, timely delivery, and safety, while providing coaching and training to team members. The primary responsibilities include:
- Maintaining production pace
- Training team members to perform their roles safely, efficiently, and with the expected quality
- Updating and revising Standard Work as necessary
The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about teaching and achieving results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure production cadence is upheld according to established standards.
- Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices, food safety protocols, and safety regulations, ensuring team adherence.
- Plan and oversee changeovers in accordance with established guidelines.
- Conduct leader standard work, including the collection, documentation, and reporting of rates, labor, performance, and exceptions.
- Communicate expectations to team members regarding quality, safety, and delivery timelines.
- Assist in creating Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Operating Conditions, One Point Lessons, and other Standard Work documentation.
- Set up and modify food processing equipment, including IQF tunnels, conveyors, metal detectors, x-ray machines, optical sorters, scales, tapers, and various packing configurations.
- Understand and train others in all tasks related to the Department, including Forklift operations, Peeler Technician duties, Production Associate roles, and Quality Assurance functions.
- Conduct in-process verification checks of finished products as required.
- Complete work orders accurately and promptly.
- Communicate issues to relevant support departments in a timely manner.
- Maintain cleanliness of all equipment and work area floors.
- Utilize MRP/ERP systems for inventory-related information.
- Lead pre-shift meetings and daily huddles.
- Perform some responsibilities of the Production Supervisor in their absence.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bi-lingual in English/Spanish is highly preferred.
- Exceptional time management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a leadership capacity.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance manuals.
- Ability to follow through with written or verbal instructions.
- Professionally corrects team members' behaviors to enhance safety, GMPs, and performance.
- Ability to perform all duties of a Level 3 Production Associate and Level 3 Forklift Operator.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook; Excel experience is preferred.
- Proactively seeks guidance from supervisors/managers.
- Shows initiative to enhance the apple team.
Working Conditions/Physical Factors:
- Exposure to wet and/or humid environments.
- Exposure to a loud work setting; hearing protection is mandatory.
- Exposure to workplace hazards, including proximity to equipment with extreme heat, moving parts, and electrical currents.
- Must be able to work in environments containing allergens; use of a respirator for extended periods may be required, though infrequently.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended durations.
- Occasionally required to use hands and fingers.
- Frequently required to communicate verbally and audibly.
- Frequently required to taste and smell.
- Frequently required to lift, push, pull, or carry weights up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
- Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
