Job Summary:

This role provides in-person and telephone reception, receives and directs new and refill prescriptions for further processing, and assists pharmacy personnel with clerical functions.

  • Uphold Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
  • Provide excellent customer service and telephone reception to patients.
  • Receive new prescriptions and/or refills, ensuring correct entry/documentation of required information to process the order.
  • Identify prescriptions needing refill authorization and refer to providers.
  • Verify prescription information, including drug name, strength, direction for use, quantity to be dispensed, and special instructions.
  • Recognize potential for generic or therapeutic substitution and alert pharmacists when necessary.
  • Enter required prescription and patient information into the pharmacy computer system (PIMS) and type prescription labels.
  • Process prescription refill authorization requests and enter responses from providers into PIMS.
  • Package filled prescriptions for immediate or future sale and organize them for efficient retrieval.
  • Sell prescriptions and other pharmaceutical merchandise to members, verifying correct patient identification.
  • Record all transactions and receipt of cash, checks, or credit card charges in the cash register.
  • Maintain the security and integrity of the cash register drawer contents.
  • Count cash drawer change funds, prepare deposits, and reconcile daily cash register summary documents.

Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service and telephone reception skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal English-speaking communication skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and transcribe pharmaceutical information.
  • Demonstrated mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • MUST PASS BACKGROUND CHECK.
  • Ability to lift/transport 1-50 lbs and perform light to moderate carrying, pulling, pushing, walking, and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.
