Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Prep Cook to join our team at Hebrew SeniorLife. As a Prep Cook, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of our food service operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare side items and special requests for tray line
  • Responsible for compliance with industry food safety standards
  • Assist in all aspects of food preparation and presentation as needed
  • Assist in control of inventory and supplies
  • Responsible for safety in the kitchen environment
  • Communicate effectively with all staff
  • Ensure that all frozen foods are pulled and thawed according to schedule in order to ensure their wholesomeness
  • Ensure that all food in the walk in refrigerators and freezers is covered, labeled and dated
  • May fill in as cold production as needed
  • Properly use, clean, maintain, and store equipment
  • Ensure that all work areas, storage areas, utensils and equipment are cleaned, sanitized and maintained in an orderly fashion according to the latest regulatory (state, federal, Kosher and local) requirements
  • Ensure that the temperature log system is maintained and followed up upon if results exceed boundaries
  • Assist in the implementation of an ongoing sanitation system
  • Adhere to pertinent safety rules, uniform code, jewelry policy, personal hygiene policy and state and federal regulations
  • Contribute to the efficient and productive operation of the department

Requirements

  • 3 years prep cook experience
  • Basic computer skills required to access emails and other online resources
  • Must be professional, proactive, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented individual
  • Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, excellent oral and written communication skills, good intuition and able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor
  • Must be motivated to learn and flexible to change
  • Maintains documentation in accordance with professional standards and guidelines (if applicable)

  • Must be able to pull 50 pounds
  • Must be able to push 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Frequent bending is involved
  • Exposure to extreme cold/heat
