Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty.

As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure.
  • Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.
  • Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Assist with placement of artificial airways.
  • Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitor patient for therapeutic response.
  • Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.
  • Assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.
  • Respond to emergent patient situations and ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.
Requirements
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • RRT/Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT / RCP).
  • State Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Certificate.

Program Requirements

All seasonal employees are required to work a minimum of 72 hours per pay period during the seasonal period. All positions require 1 year of experience. Three (3) weekend shifts are required each 4-week schedule period. During the course of the 32-week period, the employee is required to work two (2) holiday shifts (defined by Department Manager or designee). Within a close geography, you may be asked to float to another facility that has an emergent staffing need. Seasonal Staff are PRN status employees and are subject to first call-off. There are no guaranteed hours by the hospital. Seasonal Staff will not be eligible for benefits, except 401(k) and retirement contribution per the PRN policy. Seasonal Staff will not be eligible for extra shift bonuses (D1/CND, D2/ECD, and D3/EVD). Current FT/PT/PRN employees are not eligible to join the Seasonal program for Current employees of HWS are not eligible for the seasonal program. Shifts may vary based on the needs of the department.
