Job Summary

Pediatrix Medical Group is seeking an experienced Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team in pediatric cardiology. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients, working with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care to patients.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for ultrasound examination.
  • Prepare patients for physicians.
  • Explain procedures to the patient prior to the commencement of the testing and provide patient education related to medical ultrasound.
  • Explain procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
  • Ensure the appropriate consent and/or declinations are obtained.
  • Conduct ultrasonic diagnostic procedures and records anatomical, pathological and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.
  • Assist physician during invasive procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain patient charts and records, and records and processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician.
  • Code appropriately for services performed; submit completed billing work sheets daily.
  • Notify Patient Service Associate of additional services performed which require authorization.
  • Maintain proper operation of the ultrasound equipment. Recognize equipment malfunctions and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
  • Maintain archives/records scans.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Act in a non-directive, non-judgmental manner, recognizing an individual's religious, ethical, and moral opinions/beliefs.
  • Recognize ethical, legal and professional issues inherent in providing care to pregnant women.
  • Comply with safety and security training and OSHA standards/regulations.
  • Complete all required Compliance Training.
  • Participate in staff development, in-service workshops and educational activities.
  • Participate in professional development activities and meetings
  • Maintain professional affiliations.
  • Perform other assigned duties as directed

Requirements
  • Possess or be eligible for certification in adult and/or pediatric echocardiography through American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Must adhere with the outlined certification maintenance requirements through ARDMS which includes but are not limited to, renewals, continuing medical education (CME) periods, and compliance policies.
  • Satisfactory completion of one of the following; at least two (2) years in an accredited Allied Health Educational Program and one (1) year on-the-job-training in cardiac ultrasound, or completion of an approved cardiac ultrasound educational program.
  • CPR certification required.
  • New graduates of a cardiac ultrasound program who are employed in an accredited facility must obtain an appropriate credential within one year from the date of graduation.
