Job Title: Lead RF Engineer

As a Lead RF Engineer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of wireless communication systems for drones and ground stations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and optimize RF front-end and transceiver systems for drones and ground stations, ensuring high performance and reliability in various operational environments.
  • Develop and implement RF communication links, including frequency selection, modulation schemes, and power management to ensure robust connectivity between drones and ground stations.
  • Conduct hands-on testing, validation, and debugging of RF systems.
  • Perform sports arena scale field tests to evaluate RF system performance in real-world scenarios, including range, interference, and signal integrity assessments.
  • Develop methods, systems, and processes to optimize the department's ability to assemble, deploy, and deliver RF technology solutions at global events.
  • Lead the RF team, including hiring and managing personnel.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate RF systems into drone and ground station platforms.
  • Define and refine system-level requirements and specifications, ensuring seamless integration of RF components with other subsystems.
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of process improvements.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and debug skills of complex design issues.
  • Lead RF deployment at events, including planning, licensing, and coexistence with existing cellular, radio, and Wi-Fi interference.
  • Travel up to 15% of the time for racing events.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of experience in a relevant field.
  • 2+ years of management and leadership experience.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with a focus on RF/microwave engineering.
  • Proficient in schematic capture and board layout best practices.
  • Ability to specify, design, and deploy custom antenna solutions.
  • Experience with implementation and testing of sub-system modules such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/GNSS, and Cellular IoT.
  • Experience using RF simulation tools such as ADS, CST, or Ansys to model and analyze RF components and circuits.
  • Experience with regulatory testing and approvals, including FCC and UL requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with qualification testing, including thermal, EMI, and shock/vibration.
  • Familiarity with best design practices for equipment in high-reliability rugged environments.
  • Understanding of DFM and DFT requirements and trade-offs.
