Job Title: Academic Advisor

Macomb Community College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting students in achieving their academic and career goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information about Macomb's degree and certificate programs.
  • Assist students with program planning and course selection.
  • Participate in outreach and information-providing activities as appropriate.
  • Provide general college information to new and prospective students.
  • Conduct informational portions of new student orientations.
  • Provide specific academic information about Macomb degree and certificate programs for all decided students.
  • Provide transfer information for all students who have decided on a transfer institution and a college major.
  • Refer students to professional counseling faculty when students indicate they are indecisive or undecided.
  • Refer students to appropriate college or community resources for assistance.
  • Interpret college policies, procedures, and students' rights and responsibilities.
  • May participate with various college committees as needed.
  • Respond to online and phone inquiries from students.
  • Interpret placement test scores and suggest appropriate courses based on test results.
  • Work with Associate Dean of Counseling and Academic Advising, Director of Counseling, Academic Advising, and Student Access Services, and professional faculty in planning and implementing new and creative ways to deliver services.
  • Conduct unofficial degree audits.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Three years' experience in centralized professional academic advising or admissions at a college/university required.
