Process Improvement Specialist

The Process Improvement Specialist will play a pivotal role in enhancing manufacturing efficiency and quality at Lucas-Milhaupt. This individual will be responsible for designing new processes and equipment, as well as validating existing ones using sound engineering principles and Lean fundamentals.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Project Management: Develop and implement projects to improve manufacturing processes, ensuring proper documentation and change control.
- Risk Identification and Mitigation: Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Technical Fitness: Ensure projects are technically feasible and meet requirements.
- Resource Management: Manage internal and external resources effectively to drive project success.
- Lean Initiatives: Drive plant-wide lean and productivity improvement initiatives through process development and implementation.
- Participation in Kaizen Events: Participate in Kaizen events, 5S, 8D, Preventative Maintenance programs, root cause analysis, and other Lean tools to enhance productivity.
- Product Development Support: Assist Global Product Line Managers in developing new products to meet customer demands in a cost-effective manner.
- Capital Expenditure Requests: Research and write Capital Expenditure Requests for new equipment purchases designed to enhance productivity and quality.
- Cell Design and Compliance: Assist Plant Manager with cell design, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and productivity standards while meeting QMS and OSHA requirements.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support and assistance in problem-solving using statistical analysis, DOEs, and other root cause analytical tools.
- Communication Skills: Possess above-average written and verbal communication skills, regularly interfacing with shop floor personnel, technical peers, management, and senior leadership.
- Project Management: Write detailed project plans using 3S and 5S techniques and planning in project software such as Microsoft Project.
- Cooperation and Teamwork: Demonstrate strong individual contributor capabilities while being able to aid others as needed, understanding the impact of words and behavior on others.
- Technical Expertise: Showcase strong technical and troubleshooting abilities in various manufacturing disciplines, including demonstrated expertise in production environments.
- Energy Level: Maintain a high energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects alongside day-to-day activities.
- Critical Thinking: Define issues, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Manufacturing Process Routings: Prepare manufacturing process routings mapped to engineering science and data supporting material breakdown-based alloy composition.
- Non-Ferrous Metallurgy: Demonstrate an understanding of non-ferrous metallurgy and its impact on material properties, especially in wire and strip manufacture.
- Machine Design/Rebuild Experience: Desired experience in machine design/rebuild.
- Process Simulation Experience: Desired experience in process simulation.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
- 4-10 years of practical, hands-on experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Project management skills and experience required.
- Exposure to LEAN and SIX SIGMA principles preferred.
$100,000 - $120,000 per year (estimated salary range).
