Key Responsibilities:
1. Establish meaningful connections with parents to assist them in coping with the emotional challenges associated with foster care involvement.
2. Facilitate Family Team Conferences, ensuring parents are well-prepared and actively participating in discussions regarding their family’s future.
3. Collaborate closely with case planners and service providers to advocate for the best interests of the children and families involved.
4. Participate in training sessions provided by our partner organization to enhance skills in child welfare practices and self-care techniques.
5. Utilize resources effectively to educate parents about the child welfare process and available support systems.
6. Conduct weekly support circles to foster community and healing among parents.
7. Engage in initiatives aimed at improving parent involvement in the first critical days of foster care.
8. Celebrate and recognize the progress made by families towards reunification.
9. Guide families in accessing necessary resources and developing problem-solving skills.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- Personal experience with the child welfare system, ideally as a parent.
- Strong communication skills to facilitate difficult conversations.
- A compassionate approach to working with families facing trauma and stress.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and online research.
- A commitment to parent leadership and advocacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in roles related to family support or advocacy.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, are advantageous.
