Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Accountant to join our team at Sterling Engineering. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of monthly financial statements and other financial reports and analyses as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the integrity of the General Ledger, including payroll and fixed asset accounting.
  • Analyze accruals and reconcile numerous accounts.
  • Oversee project accounting functions and monitor progress, investigating variances and ensuring timely project billings.
  • Assist with the development of financial aspects of business cases for proposed projects.
  • Perform various general accounting duties, including reconciling general ledger accounts, prepaid accounting, and payroll accounting.
  • Prepare month-end closings and balance various general ledger accounts.
  • Review budgets, including staffing, work plans, and fee structures.
  • Provide project managers and clients with timely financial reports and budgets, as well as project forecasts.
  • Prepare pre-billing reports for project managers to review.
  • Monitor receivable income and support project managers with collections.
  • Ensure a steady cash flow by generating, auditing, and sending invoices in a timely manner.
  • Update contracts according to client requirements and report associated budget amendments.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, rules, regulations, and systems of internal control.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a similar field, with a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in an accounting role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with full cycle accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency in managing general ledgers, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Ability to prepare project budgets, financial forecasts, project invoicing, project controlling, and billing.
  • Ability to analyze capacity utilization, manufacturing deviations, and PPV.
  • Strong skills in Excel and Microsoft package and ERP systems.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, accuracy, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage confidential information.
  • Knowledge of IFRS is a plus.
  • Integrity and a desire to constantly learn, improve, and go the extra step.
